Good point Jan. Timing wise this might be quite an astute sale if its not proving especially profitable.

those of us that have been in the industry long enough will have heard one the earliest owners of the domain (the legend that is Graeme Levine) tell a very funny story as to how much he bought it for (you wouldnt believe it) and how he explained to the then owner during negotiations that 'it will be very hard to make any money on this domain'

5 years ago it would have been worth buying, Not now the new owners changed to much and destroyed the original concept of the site. I will give them $10 for it....lol

I can not see how a buyer could justify the purchase of the domain name if their goal is a profit. They could purchase a less expensive domain and spend 10 million in quality content.

Or 10 awesome sites with 1 million in content on each. lol

I think that is why many have speculated that bodog might be the eventual buyer. With this price tag attached it can't be bought for profit making - not in the short to medium term anyway.

Bodog should put the 10 million into their affiliate managers ...

Online casino is a big industry and I think $20 million is quite a big price for such a domain to think that they never even rank using some of the major keywords for online casinos.

Not very. This is just some simple algo, that estimates value based on things like traffic, links and length of domain. Probably best ignored.

Yes ,If I had to visit a casino or a betting site I would definately not type gambling or terms related to that .I would rather type no deposit casino or online casino .
The genuine price of the domain should be around $5M .

I have bought traffic from gambling.com from various managements in last few years. For records, I have acquired some of the best players from this site at some point of time. And the quality has deteriorated over the period of time. They use to have amazing type in traffic and also ranked for good keywords in the earlier version when it use to be a portal.
Satya I actually bought traffic from them last summer. I spent thousands and got zip. I was able to get some of my money back after a fight but needless to say it was a HUGE disappointment.

They would have a huge database of members. Not sure about affiliate accounts though, much of their revenue is media buy based and have been since 2000 - 2001.

The industry has taken a BIG dive, least in relationship to the US market of which gambling.com was founded on and targeted to. With the changing landscape of the industry, it seems to me, gambling.com has been playing catch up every since.

The site uses sub domains and that makes it very confusing, add to that other visitor issues including navigational links which are not easy to follow, all these issues have created a major down turn in this sites ability to make the profits it was once achieving.

As a gambling.com member since 2000, they are sending out a lot of emails lately. The content and a desperation to turn a buck has been prevalent in these mailers.

10 million, I highly doubt it - I'd be surprised if it got 5 million.

Reiterating given the uncertainty of the current gaming industry combined with the sites obvious deterioration since the UIGEA, I can't see too many buyers who be prepared to pony up with 7+ figure dollars.

I suppose if one had a sizable cheque book and was prepared to take the gamble on the USA legalising online casinos...etc...etc then purchasing gambling.com maybe a good idea. However when gambling.com was in its hay-day it was not competing with Facebook, Twitter nor other Web2 social media or viral marketing.

The landscape has changed dramatically and unfortunately I think gambling.com is yet another of its victims.

    Cheers

    Dave

The funny part is - they do not rank for the terms "online gambling" or "gambling"
That must be why they are selling, no?
