It is so devastating to watch the news and see how people are dying in Haiti.

This is so sad i was watching CNN last night the country is in such a mess, have seen first hand what large earthquakes can do when i lived in Costa Rica my heart goes out to these people, this earthquake was huge as soon as 7 hits death and destruction is huge.

i hope these people get aid soon, it was said that the Red Cross ran out of supplies yesterday so they now have ing nothing to offer.

I hope Don Rep man up and assit.

This is very sad to watch indeed! I lived in the Domincan Republic a little while a few years ago and saw many Haitans that came to the DR for a better life to work etc. I beleive they will help in any manner they can even though they are almost as poor as the Haitans.

I've seen how they construct the buildings out of brick with NO heavy equipment at all and it was very hard work. To see them buried under all that rubble make me ill to my stomach. I can't watch anymore. They said it could be up to a half a million dead when yesterday it was thought to be 100,000.

I know what you mean Robin, when you watch CNN you feel like you should help but i feel so helpless.

i want to do something that will help. Whilst in Costa Rica and we had the 6.4 over 1800 people has been displaced we helped out with the red cross did collections ect but on this scale it need the politicians to do some work and get aid, money and support over ASAP.

All gestures are appreciated but sadly $10 million is the tip of an iceberg. However every little helps and that is why all donations are appreciated at this time. DEC has good reserves of emergency funds available (the organisation I support) but they can always do with more as you never know when the next big natural disaster will occur.

Sadly the majority of people of killed and injured lived in flimsy structures and a small earthquake would of caused the collapse of them, never mind a big earthquake. It is also worth noting Haiti is the poorest country on earth with little proper infrastructure to handle this.

That's why I don't agree with this sometimes.

People laugh off a $10 million contribution as a gesture and the tip of the iceberg. Don't know why we bother, we'd have to be the largest contributors in the world to stuff like this in relation to GDP. We get sneezed at.

I think $10 million is fantastic and if every country followed what Australia does it would be amazing Australia was among the first countries to step in and have done on several previous occasions. I was simply noting the sheer scale of when events like this happen and nothing against a country I consider is great - please do not think I am sneezing at it as this is not the case.

I have been in a position and ina country during a crisis and no how difficult some of the smaller countries such as Haiti take to get things back no the feet again as they are swamped and in need of simple resources and for this reason I feel greatly when things like this happen.

Barack Obama has vowed to send US troops in to assist this is also going to be huge, the US forces will be able to do a lot more that just provide aid.

That's for sure. We don't need another 'Katrina' type fiasco even though they are not part of the USA we are still obligated to assist.

Its just one disaster after another in this world lately, very scary and very very sad. Those poor people don't know what hit them, some look like they are still in shock, and to hear that they have no heavy equipment to help rescue people that are buired in the rumble and to see them trying to dig them out by hand is heart breaking.

I am glad to see the US step up with "man" help, but i hope we step up with cash also, and all other countries especially the ones that are in the UN.....that organization is supposed to be full of counties that want a better world, so they all should be in line to help.

Prayers and hugs to those suffering and who have suffered loss in Haiti.
