I did want to point out that Tony was likely talking -3C, which i think is about 26F. Not as horrible as it sounds. You have to hit about -17C to get to 0F, but once it's -40, C and F are the same. I can't explain why, but....

I would have to say that until the Nor'easter, yesterday, the two Londons (UK, ontario) had the worst decembers, relative to what they are normally prepared for.

When I lived in San Diego, or winters were almost that mild, but never got that hot even in summer.

I extremely dislike the cold as well, so I've made a point never to live in cold climate areas. A little weather change is okay, just to keep the blood flowing.

Here in Cyprus the weather is good, has been early - mid 20s, dropping down to around 14 at night. Just looking at the pictures of the UK / USA and their snow makes me feel cold - I've been gone too many years now!

I am in the south of Spain. Its the middle of winter but still beautiful and sunny. Its only 10C in the shade but at least double that in direct sunlight.
Never again will i spend a winter in England!

Truth is, living on an island in the tropics is not always as idyllic as people imagine.

Summer means extreme heat and humidity for a few days followed by rain and more humidity. Add to this frequent storms that force you to stay indoors for days with no electricity, not to mention the massive clean up afterwards to clear trees which fell everywhere.

Winter is grey and sultry with more rain, but still very mild compared to Europe, Canada and such.

For now, we are drowning slowly and steadily. Sent the bf to get planks and nails...

When i was in Malta and Gozo what you have mentioned is exactly how it gets there, well to my experience it was.

Now i have relocated to Germany and this winter has been hell to be honest, blizzards, 4-6 feet of snow and below zero all the time.

I also have lived in Norway and also been to Canada in the depth of winter.

The truth is i miss Gozo, i really do, i dont care about the humidity, the grey winters, the storms, no electricity etc, living on an island is all that it is cracked up to be, the good far outweighs the negative.

Hindsight is brilliant isn't it? I have been critical of Malta in previous posts when i lived there but the grass is not greener in my case.

If i could go back i would, i would go on my hands and knees and crawl through broken glass the 1500 miles to get there.

Alas i cannot go back yet and will just sit here with memories and regrets.

You are right about this. Living on an island is fun - sorry if my post seemed to intimate otherwise.

As I said, our winters are a piece of cake when compared to what some of you guys are experiencing.

I actually do agree with you about peoples impressions about Islands and the sun etc, it is not what people imagine, far from it and some of my previous posts about Malta etc allude to that.

No, my comments were aimed at myself more than anything, yes Islands have some huge faults and i whined like a kid about it at the time, but for me i would rather live on Gozo and Malta than anywhere else now.

I love the weather in Costa Rica. I used to live in Florida and at the time I thought that the sub-tropical climate was awesome. After living in Costa Rica I've been spoiled by the cool mountain air. The temperature hardly changes, but it does rain more in the "summer" time.

We are planning a move back to Florida in the next year, so I'm going to miss living here. (a lot)

I'm in Montreal and i guess everyone is getting hit hard with strong weather, wind and snow, except us. we've had some snow, but nothing major. But winter has only just begun

I hope you're right Christian, and that we can expect lots more snow - my first winter in Montreal has been somewhat disappointing so far I feel like I'm the only one who WANTS copious amounts of snow
