Ha! Let's be real. If an affiliate asked a question - good, bad or indifferent - and it did not suit The Professor or Warrens needs they were banned. A 4 million dollar a year biz. Down the tubes!

What has changed? Where is Lou? Where is Warren? Who got the money? Who cares?

The answer to the title of the post above, is cap dead? The answer is yes. They deserve it and if anyone wants to take advantage of affiliates (sheep) in the future just take a look at CAP.

Personally I don't think CAP is dead - They still have new programmes coming on and new affiliate members. Its certainly not the powerhouse it was but it still ranks for a lot of very good key words and also a lot of the actual affiliate program's key words plus at the same time it has a shed load of useful information in the archives so organically it has a lot of scope to still grow.

On the whole PM, signature etc etc. Thats a hard one to debate as at the end of the day when you peel back the forum, the community, the Pm's etc. there is a business with staff, targets, budgets etc and they need to a) make a profit and b) offer genuine value to programs that support the site financially and its a massively hard thing to manage whilst still ensuring the affiliates get there questioned answered and get value from the forums.

There is certainly a balance needed and I think they are trying to find that and with feedback etc they should eventually find a model that works.

I think it will be interesting to see what happens - if anything this is a great case study to watch and learn from

This is actually an interesting thread. I was half expecting a bash fest, but have been pleasently surprised that is not the case

I asked about that, and that's not the point. The point is that aff managers wonder just how many signups they get from CAP presence, and there is no way to prove it if everyone uses non-trackable links.
I doubt seasoned affiliates who currently do not promote program x or y would click on the banners on CAP. Same goes for GPWA. However your exposure on those sites, would I am sure bring awareness of your brand to affiliates that currently don't promote a program. Thus potentially gaining new affiliate partners as a result of such exposure.

With regards the comments about guest affiliate managers having threads or posts removed and being charged an addition rev share fee. That is just wrong. It shows that Warren is still trying to squeeze the last drop of milk out of his cash cow.

Yes it is a business, but unfortunately his and Lou's actions ruined it. The ones that have been hurt the hardest in all of this is not CAP, Lou, Warren or affiliate media. But the affiliates who posted there at was once a vibrant community and a leader in it's field. The decent programs have also been badly burnt as well.

Thankfully Michael has turned around the GPWA in the past 3 years or so, so we as a community have a new home.
    Exit stage left

Like what? I mean really, how long is archived information good for in this daily, dynamically changing world of the online casino industry?

There could be something posted today that will not even apply next week in this business, one of the very few businesses that you can actually say that about!

It is important to note that CAP was a whale in the industry not just because of the promoters or share holders but due to the members - affiliates and affiliate managers. I have been a regular visitor/ participant since 2002 and have met many of my good friends - affiliates as well as managers at CAP. I guess the same is true for many in our industry. We still believe it can be revived if the right people are at the helm.

Our industry is strange and things move in a cycle. What happened at CAP is nothing new and has happened before with other forums. I hope everyone learns lessons from these mistakes and make sure it is not repeated again.

to Michael and the team for reviving GPWA and managing it professionally to suit to the industry's requirements. I hope the managers at CAP learn from past and revive the forum back to what it was.

But apart from that there is a lot of other historical information which is useful for a new starter or someone who wants to research a program or affiliate. CAP has a treasure of knowledge in the archives and would always be useful for research. Even a dormant CAP is still useful for us.

The only forum that has never been affected by any kind of misdoings is Jeremy’s PAL & PR/PAW. The same is true for Bryan's Casinomeister as a player forum. There is a lot to learn from these gentlemen and their community skills/ business models.

    Cheers!

You are very true about the balance, mate. Keen to see what the new guys come up with ... it will in fact be a great case study. It is interesting to note the rise and fall of forums and the fluctuating popularity of CAP and GPWA since late 90s.

    Hi Michael

    Thanks for the post.

I pop into to PAL every now and then but I have to say I have not looked at PAP for ages and like wise with CAP it has been a number of months.

For me to go back to CAP i would have to see the traffic go a lot higher.

Over the past six months the PAP forum has had a total of about 4,000 posts, or about 22 posts per day. That compares with Jeremy's new PAL forum, which he started after he left PAP, that has had about 19,000 posts over the same period or around 105 posts per day. Going back a year ago before Jeremy started PAL the PAP website used to run about 100 posts per day, so pretty much all of the PAP members have migrated over to the PAL website.

The PAP website did undergo a complete facelift, but it has not had much effect on the number of visitors as far as I can tell.

In terms of CAP and the GPWA, if you look back a year ago there were about four posts on the CAP website for every post on the GPWA website. But the situation has changed a lot since then. For example, in the past month there were about five posts on the GPWA website for every post on the CAP website.

In terms of Dominique's observation that there seems to be some pick-up in postings at CAP, I agree that is true, but I think it is correct to view that as due to seasonal fluctuations moving from September to October. Four weeks ago CAP averaged 23 posts per day, and this past week the average was about 32 posts per day. So on the surface that looks like a healthy growth rate of about 40% over the past few weeks. But in the same timeframe the number of posts on the GPWA website grew from an average of 99 posts per day to 186 posts per day last week for growth over that time period of 88%.
