@ SHerlock - very sad story and I hope all to get good soon and to be a good decision for you.

Most of the European countries are with blocked borders: Ukraine, Roumania, Greece, Bulgaria, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Croatia and Czech Republik.

it is crisis for almost none country is prepared for as the spread was and it is very fast. Look at what is happening in USA now, Trump was neglecting the problem till recent times.

France and UK are also in very bad situation. Lot's of people in UK are more panicked that in many other countries .

I am fine, I wanted to see Europe on my own eyes. Only **** me off if I had to pay for private jet to go back.

Now, now people are in full panic mode, when situation actually is much safer than week b4.

I had to go to physiotherapy and the guy just cancelled it, because "he has fear and it is obvious". What is ******* obvious? I travelled over the ocean, drove during night to be here. There is no government restriction against physiotherapy. Once I cancelled I had to pay the hour anyways.

So now fear and obviousness is a reason to breach any contract. I wonder when revenue share will be shut down, because corona made revenues lower, so they can not pay people, lol.

I'm from Belarus. There are 27 cases in my country, but these are official data that do not change on the third day. In the media, this issue is not discussed, the government pretends that nothing is happening. All neighbors closed the borders.

Things are not great here in the UK, due to the goverments lax response they have seen the virus numbers begin to rise much faster than expected, especially in London. We have now been told, not forced to avoid clubs, pubs and theatres and work from home where possible, those over 70 and with underlying health problems will from Saturday need to try and isolate themselves for 12 weeks.

Still no testing happening against WHO advice, only on those admitted to hospital with symptoms, if other countries like South Korea can carry out tests on massive numbers then surely the UK can, they are saying they only have the capacity to carry out 10,000 a day.

This part actually makes lots of sense. Not to stop everything but isolate those at risk, especially that most of them are retired.

Agree the situation is bad in the UK, there is advive and handling of the situation hasn't been great. By telling people to avoid pubs, restaurants etc instead of enforcing it will essentially bankrupt many.

However the one thing I agree with and disagree with WHO is the test test advice. The NHS is already under considerably pressure already, what its the point on sending tens of thousands more people to get tested who have mild symptoms when if they get diagnosed the advice will be just go home and self isolate.

If they had the capacity to do it as SK did, then they could diagnose those showing no symptoms who are walking around spreading it unsuspectingly I guess?

Possibly, but then you are talking about having to test the entire population which I am guessing would be almost impossible for the NHS to manage.

Just think the advice is sensible, if you are showing even mild symptoms self isolste, if you have returned from abroad self isolate or if you have come into contact with someome showing symptoms or has been diagnosed self isolate.

Isolation will save a lot of lives.

Not like in France last day, people saw it is sunny and went for a walk.

The problem is that it's very hard to enforce isolation and since this virus i so contagious, if it's not 100% everyone, you need only few that dont follow the guidelines to destroy for everyone and the virus will continue to infect...

    How is your health now?

I am now in Ukraine, in Kiev, and here the situation is heating up! People are still behaving quietly.

My recommendations: Wash your hands, I washed and before that, do not visit crowded places, do not gather more than 4 people.

I would avoid meeting altogether or make sure u always meet the same 4 people but they in turn only meet u and no body else . Also, stand or sit 1 meter apart from each other. nOT sure whether the gov. there has taken the measures we have here but all shops, restaurants, bars, gyms, beauty salons and hairdressers are shut down with big fines if they are found open. Its really tough and not we are just waiting for total lock down. All the best

My country only has 102 cases and zero deaths but is trying to learn from what happened in Europe.
Recently new cases have grown exponentially so we obviously have transmission within communities.

To try and stop the spread - the whole country is going into lockdown. Non-essential business forced to close (bars, restaurants, most retailers), all schools and universities close. Public transport stops.

(This is a BIG change from previous government advice where "public transport is safe", "schools are not a problem" etc. The specialist scientist have been vocal about that being bad advice possibly leading to 1000s of deaths - and the government has backtracked and listened)

Everyone to stay at home (or go out for isolated walks /exercise only) - private cars only for essential trips to local supermarket, doctor and pharmacist.
This will last for 4 weeks. Don't go out unless essential.

Will it work? Biologists say it is the best chance at this stage - we will see.

This will absolutely kill economy, businesses will go bust, jobs will be lost.
But they are trying to prevent 100s or 1000s of deaths so public are going with it.

    -----------------------------

    EDIT :

Interestingly this impact on modern Western civilisations is NOT unprecedented.

In 1918/19 the Spanish flu ran through NZ - and many towns and cities shutdown for months after Auckland (largest city) was hit.
Death rates were around 0.5% of total population !!
To put than in perspective - a 60,000,000 population (approx italy, France or Uk today) would have 300,000 deaths.

In 1926, 1938, 1948/49 Polio hit NZ, causing infant paralysis. Schools were closed for months. Gyms and pools too.
Vaccines were finally found in 1952.

Obviously European countries will have many more examples - NZ is a young country only founded in 1840..

    ------

But my point is while this is unusual - it is NOT unprecedented.
it's happened before and will happen again. We've just lived in very protected and fortunate times.

I do not see how we can go back to a "normal" way of life for months perhaps years.

Most people will lose their jobs if not all.

Economies will come to a halt.

Expect a state of emergency and total control by the government.

Mandatory vaccines and other measures will be taken.

the WHO, CDC do not have much trust in those corrupt organisations the numbers reported are probably 10 times worse.

The virus strains seem to adapt and change if jumped from animal to human and human to human.

The super spreaders that do not have symptoms can infect 100s if not more.

We do not know if the virus is synthetically made in a lab but it is already possible - and confirmed this morning on nat. TV where I live - as those have samples of the SARS (Corona V1) for which they were altering the gens.

Learn how to grow your own food as this will be the new future.

I find this very disturbing could be orchestrated total control by creating a global event, but you decide.

I have some other links and docs if you are interested that originate from a gathering in 2005 where leaders talked about giving China a cold.

But they are trying to prevent 100s or 1000s of deaths so public are going with it.
Those steps are not worth of it if they have to save only 100s or 1000s lives (I have no idea how many lives will be saved, but it should be Spanish flu level to justify what is going on), because the trillions thrown through window will cost by orders of magnitude more lives.

Spanish flu happened that is correct. And the world was not like in the past. After Spanish flu came hyperinflation and nazism and communism and WWII.

Ever day this thing does not go back to the old way, the greater is the chance it will never return on the old path. I am saying this without stating what I wish. It is just the hysteresis. Socio-economic systems adapt to the current state and tend to keep in that state.

As governments started to talk about bailing out everybody, people tend to relax. They are even asked to relax like in this utterly stupid article: hxxps://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/22/think-about-the-best-case-scenario-how-to-manage-coronavirus-anxiety

Hotels close... because why they have to be open, when they will get money from government right. In fact it is rational for them to close, because then they can prove they had no customers, so they will get the refund unlike if they accommodate the few foreigners.

Nurses quit (not all ofc, probably not most, kudos to the brave ones).

I heard in supermarket as the people at counters were complaining that all other people have vacations and they must work.
