Wow, what's going on... a lot of work for moderators. I think it's time to make the registration and account approval harder and with steps to avoid such problems in the future.

They started another small run again the last hour but please do NOT link to the posts nor the profiles, they are being removed using spam-o-matic and the accounts are being banned as well as the ip's, usernames and email addresses being submitted to Stop Forum Spam.

This is too serious already. Probably they are angry from yesterday's banning and will strengthen their attacks.

I don't think xrumer gets angry. It doesn't give up either though.

Last I heard they still weren't able to find a way defeat recaptcha so maybe that's worth a try. The trouble is that every time it works and posts successfully, you'll get added to someone's "success" list and get hit again by different email addresses and proxies, even if the original spam has been cleaned up. And that's just one user. If there's a group of users sharing success lists it'll just amplify.

plugins or stop-forum-spam dont solve this problem. xrumer is a strong tool and can bypass captchas.

Put the registration on moderation and posts from new users on moderation..

Putting registration on moderation is not the answer...
Stop forum spam helps immensely

Problem is some groups pay to have the registrations done in blocks in advance by humans so even recaptcha doesn't stop it as we are already using it

We went thru this previously and it subsided after a few days of banning the ip's and some of the subnets...which will be looked at in the coming days...

Moderation of registrations or new posts is indeed not the answer.
It's only a comfort for the owners of a forum.

It looks a little bit like Iran or so, because new members do not know, that e.g. Anthony would only censor if he will be forced to do so.
For some new people, for people with a serious issue that can't wait more hours, moderation of registrations and/or posts looks like a censorship backdoor.
This is the reason, why almost all forums don't use this option.
A forum has to live with spam.

Either the members have a little bit patience with the forum staff so that it will be deleted after some time or other members bring them down in the meantime like Shay, Triple7 and I did with this Condor Affilaites idiot a few days ago.
Captain Condor now needs the whole summer to recover from this.
So what?
A forum is no boring grave.
It was in human history also a place of entertainment.

And a last sidenote: I personally see no difference between a spammer's post or these worthless 3-word-posts "Hello to GPWA", "Congratulations to all", "I am here", "Where are you?" if NOTHING different will be posted by that people on a regular basis.

But also this people have the right to write such posts.
And I have the right to write a comment.
