    gayle,

Is this in addition to standard navigation links?

And, do you really put liver on a bagel?

<style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --> </style> I agree with Murton.. PR doesn't have any importance nowadays.. some say that the future of SEO is SEM, that could possibly be true but I don't believe that there will come a day that SEO is gone and SEM will prevail.. because there would be no SEM if not for SEO.

Rick: these 3 links go at the bottom of each article/lesson page along with the nav bar at
    the left side.

As long as there are consumers looking for guides, information, products through search engines, there are search engines to help them locate their needs easily, there are people providing these needs through a website, SEO will still live. No matter how the process will evolve, the same logic will still remain, 'query' matched to a relevant 'resource', which is what SEO is all about, I think. We webmasters/site owners have the resources, consumers have the queries, search engines are there to link it all up, to make everything connected in an orderly manner, SEO should always be present.

Not sure if this really falls into SEO per se, but having a mobile optimized site will most likely be helpful in the future
I have to agree with that!! Did you ever think of creating your own mobile site?

    Yes, I have!

I use WordPress, and I know that there are multiple plugins that will detect a mobile app and send to a mobile site. I haven't done this yet, but it is on my list to do.

I don't know about social bookmarking, that was a fade a few years ago. Many of the sites now use no_follow commands. In no way am I am saying it doesn't help, I don't see it as the future.

Social media such as Facebook, I believe will become bigger and bigger. I know many people already use it, but I foresee Facebook and other social media sites becoming bigger. With so many people on these sites, it is hard not to believe Google won't find a way to use them.

However, I don't think Twitter is that big of a asset - tweets have a short shelf-life.

    Great discussion guys!

I believe the industry will have to change in the near future. The web becomes more and more of a social nature, so it might be that in couple of years we will be discussing SMO (social media optimization) instead.

As long as Google is still around and still focused on relevancy we will never have to worry about engines showing all ads all the time. Even if Google goes public and becomes the next in a long line of greedy search engines to totally screw up their results, another will come along to take its place. So, no, we will never have to worry about there being only paid listings.

SEO is very bright and it all depends on your continues research and adopting new policies by the Google and other search engines. SEO will always survive, but the way it works will continue to develop and evolve, as it always has done. There will always be work to do that improves search visibility and reputation, because it's something that a lot of web authors don't or can't do themselves.

I think SEO in the future will get better and will become known as days will pass by. As Search Engines will make their best to protect the web from those spam sites, the competitiveness of the industry will highly rise.

I'm quite convinced that the future of seo will be this:

    • spam will not even be indexed and shown in the search engines
    • everything will be 100% geo targeted (meaning that a seach for "closest restaurant to my house that is open now" will actually give as first result the closest restaurant to the location of the person who searched that is open in the time of the search)
    • PR, link exchanges and other things will have zero effect on ranking...

in general I think that eventually it'll all just be tuned in order to give to the person who searched exactly what he wanted to find.

if Google is not going to be able to do it, than facebook will, or another new company that will find a way how to do it, and this is what people will use in order to search...

Google spiders will be more stricter than ever in the fact that spam will be picked up heavily.

Hmmm - I'll be straight with you - PR has NEVER been a factor. Its based on historical indexation and beside the last pathetic update over the last 2 weeks there has only been ONE in the last 18 months and again...it was based on old information.

I've been watching this thread and I guess I understand many of the opinions left, but I can tell you this...as long as there is and algorithm there will always be a need for SEO.

SEO isn't metas or links or social media saturation or any ONE thing or 10 things that a piece of software or a few cowboys can replicate - its about networks, people knowing people, testing G's algo every single day, and a few hunderd other elements.

I am stupefied that this thread hs drawn so much attention when there is so much quality information to utilise.

Spend half the time you all have refuting it on learning it and you'll understand where I am coming from.

Algo's can always be 'gamed' - I don't care if google integrates their instant search without your permission or not - it can always be gamed - and organic search results are so easily manipulated they will never deliver TRUE results - they are too caught up in using your own search queries and their demented idea of latent semantics that it will be years before they will ever be able to game the REAL SEO's.

Ps.Google spiders are like a 5 year old Murton, they aren't smart and all they do is crawl code.. that's why they are so easy to manipulate. Don't make them out to be more than they are.Inreality the googlebot is nothing more than a newer version of the Antikythera mechanism on steroids - stupid and easily steered.

That being said- I think you know your stuff so lets keep this thread going - but lets get past SEO EVER being absolute.
