    Default hooked on the Olympics.

My wife and I have been hooked on the Olympics.. and its only day one.

Our favorites have been swimming (when Australia is in the pool). She likes gymnastics, I like basketball and the 100,200,400 sprints.

C'mon Aussie! (Its the Aussie catch cry)

Haven't had a chance to watch much today but saw the opening ceremonies last night. What a fantastic event. Well done London!

The opening ceremony was fantastic. I've been watching it way too much today - but it's a great event.

    Come on Team GB!!

I just saw a volleyball game USA vrs South Korea, it was pretty entertaining! I forgot how cool watching volleyball games were, I am enjoying my Olympics!

China, USA and Italy are leading the count up until now!

I also just read that Phelps didn't win a medal in his first try. Came in 4th place...

Just watched the swim! I think we are behind here and live but not live (?) but happy to get to see what I have time for. Lochte won the gold for USA. Phelps had the disadvantage of lane 8 and lost it on the backstroke maybe. Exciting!

I get emotional also. I want everyone to win and feel the pain. I watched the women's weightlifting earlier with the China team. These athletes work so hard. They all deserve a huge cheer.

Love the volleyball too. Saw preliminary US v Aus. Really cool to watch.

The British are recognized for being very regal and a bit dull. I think it was great idea to introduce a bit of humour with the queen jumping from the helicopter.

Here just in case anybody missed it!

I'm not really knowledgeable on these things but I adore the British and UK. I don't find them dull at all and are rich with history. I'm one of those fascinated Americans. I see a combination of a great sense of humor and a stiff upper lip I suppose. That said, there is not a great love for Americans but that's ok. Don't believe everything you read.

    Back to the games!

We live in zone 1 London so we are very much immersed in all of the olympic shenanigans - for example yesterday we stumbled upon the mens cycling when walking home after going for lunch. And it was right as one of the team GB guys was going past - talk about timing!

It's a little hectic, but all in all everyones attitude has been great so far - very positive vibes going around.

We also have tickets to the mens gold medal basketball - which we're guessing will be the USA vs someone so it should be a good game (plus the wifes American - not sure what we'll do if it's USA vs UK, although that's pretty unlikely ).

Got to watch last nights gymnastic prelims, the swimming and a few other things. The rowing they showed in the afternoon was a real treat with team USA taking the win.

Opening ceremony was nothing shy of incredible! I was awestruck by it. Really well done.

It was monumental ****. Highly political, politically correct and unprofessional. Typical current British hand-wringing claptrap.

Rowan Atkinson was amusing. Sad that's the most you can say for it.

Wow! Man I'm so jealous, that is going to be an awesome game

It'll most likely be USA vs Spain I think, and that should be an exciting game to watch too. Spain has heaps of NBA players in their team and should have a size advantage with the Gasol brothers (both of them are 7 feet tall).

Any chance you can post some pics from the game?

It was fantastic! I caught the Mr Bean skit, brought back many memories.

I missed The Queen parachuting into the stadium though

I got family and friends there at the moment, some are part of teams and marched in the opening ceremony, some are visitors. They said the atmosphere is amazing.

I loved the opening ceremony; it's great to see the Brits celebrating themselves. Swimming is my favorite to watch and the cycling is pretty exciting too, I've been catching up with the BBC summaries each evening on the iplayer. Don't have enough time watch live

Love Mr Bean! One of a kind. For all ages!

I also love a real conversation. I understand politically correct but not sure what you mean by unprofessional?

I'm sure my wife will be snap happy, so I'll post some pics. We're Lakers fans (well kind of - we watch the games when we're in the US but don't follow them otherwise) so expect all of the photos to be of Kobe.

I'm also thinking it'll be USA v Spain, unless they meet each other in an earlier round (guessing that's how it works).

Not of the quality I'd have hoped for. People milling around in entirely unskilled manner, a deaf children's choir that was, understandably, out of tune, crap musical numbers, etc etc. I know my opinion doesn't gel with the lovey-dovey feelgood hynmbook we're all supposed to sing from, but hey.

Also, all sides of the political divide have commented on the blatant socialist theme. The olympics really should NOT be an opportunity for some left wing activist to make political statements.

I have been watching a few games, tough to watch the delay knowing the outcome.

Trying to not to read up on the events during the day...trying.
