    Gary,

For affiliate links, I link to an internal page such as mysite.com/casinos/casinoname.html and then use meta refresh to direct the click to the casino. Should I still use the no follow with this method?

If I already restricted a certain area or page from being indexed by using the robots.txt, is it still advisable or even necessary to use the nofollow tag to prevent PR leakage into this area? Or does a robots.txt automatically prevent both the crawling and getting PR benefits.

    Thanks!
It won't if there are any links to it internally or from an external source..

Is it a meta refresh or a redirect?

    It is a meta refresh.

I am still getting my head round all this stuff and I gotta admit I am a little bit more enlightened after reading this thread. I have put nofollows on all my aff links and also gone into my forum and done the same for any external links as well as removed inactive ones. I still have a long way to go but I am getting there

I always got the motion it was good to follow links that was similar to the subject at hand even if they had a worse pr rating.

    Am I wrong?

Its goog d to follow links that are out to sites like gamblingaware or a top ranking wikipedia.

I only mention nofollows on affiiate links so that you can preserve the PR for your own pages.

    Hey Gary,

You must have missed my reply to your question regarding my question. Here it is again just in case as I'm trying to figure out if I should use no follow.

For affiliate links, I link to an internal page such as mysite.com/casinos/casinoname.html and then use meta refresh to direct the click to the casino. Should I still use the no follow with this method?

The method I use is meta refresh. Should I use the no follow with the meta refresh?

Thanks in advance for your reply.

I nofollow my redirected affiliate links, example... I have a directory called "visit" in that directory are my affiliate links. so on the review the link to the casino/poker site is

    (http)example.com/visit/bodogpoker.php

I do place the nofollow to that as I do not want my PR to leak to the "visit" directory. I don't think it would pass all the way to the casino but, I don't need my "visit" directory pages to rank, and have them shut off with robots.txt to.

I think I am on the right track.

Nutshell: place no follow on links to pages and sites that you do not to pass link juice too.

Gary, did I listen to your seminar correct?

I guess the no follow attribute in your affiliate banner will not that affect the affiliate manager's website since the links isn't the one they're actually promoting. Affiliate links are only for traffics not for SEO right?

After being referred back to this thread since someone referenced it in a current thread, I re-read a few of the first posts to familiarize myself with the discussion we had a while back....

Steven made some really good points and I wanted to re-post one of them, since I think this is a key poiont when trying to determine how much one wants to use the no-follow attribute.

    3) Is text that is anchored with a no-follow link valued differently than either a) text that has no link or b) text with a followed link?
I personally think these links are valued differently and would like to hear moire ideas on this point. (when I get a chance I will come back in here and read through the entire thread again since I remember a number of different opinions on the use of no-follow.

if you nofollow a link then it does not add PR, Link Juice or whatever you want to call it to other do follow links. The PR is dissolved so pr scultping is a waste of time now and can actually be damaging

<meta http-equiv="CONTENT-TYPE" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"><title></title><meta name="GENERATOR" content="OpenOffice.org 3.1 (Win32)"><style type="text/css"> <!-- @page { margin: 0.79in } P { margin-bottom: 0.08in } --> </style> Is sharing of link juice a good source of high rankings? I have a casino site which affiliates are set to no follow. my site only serves as a portal wherein visitors can direct through those affiliates, which means I don't have to share any PR to them. Will they affect my rankings whenever they drop into the search engine listings? I'm sorry but I'm a bit confused on what does the value of no follow links are.

Talk of all this reminds me of diet programs... I say do what works best for you and that you understand the results you’re getting from your efforts. Don’t blindly take advice from anyone on anything and always do your own research. and btw **** GOOGLE!

That's a good question, Rick. Does anyone have any idea input on this? No one seems to have tackled it yet.
