I use AHREFS mainly but I actually go to SemRush more to use their free version as it seems to have a quicker crawler that picks up new referring domains / backlinks quicker than AHREFS - it’s not a preference for one or the other but AHREFS might be better if you are looking for the depth of tools to help fuel content ideas or do some competitor research so I can’t see myself switching…

I would check their offerings and see which tool gives you the best uses for your needs. Another tool which I find helpful is Screaming Frog.

I like Surfer SEO as well (Chrome Extension). It gives you a quick overview of estimated traffic e.g. in Google searches, live in the browser.

If you've got the budget, ahrefs is my top pick.

I'm traditionally a big fan of Ahrefs, but Semrush is a decent (worse, but cheaper) alternative. On Page can also be good, as can Nightwatch. Google Console is alright cause it's free but they take ages to get updates.

    Hi Andy,

From the list you mention here I would suggest going for Ahrefs. It's gotten so good lately, and they keep introducing new features that are very helpful. You can pretty much do everything you need with it, from content gap analysis to site audits.

Ahrefs, definitely. As an Off-Page SEO, I also appreciate Majestic metrics.

Ahrefs, no question. Nothing comes close in functionality and breadth of options, IME.

f you're looking for a single tool to start with, Ahrefs or Semrush are great choices because they cover a wide range of SEO aspects comprehensively. However, if budget allows, pairing Ahrefs with Moz or Majestic can give you a broader perspective, especially in backlink analysis.

In my opinion, Yoast SEO is an indispensable tool for anyone serious about optimizing their website. It integrates seamlessly with WordPress, making it incredibly user-friendly for both beginners and seasoned professionals. I like Yoast SEO because of its real-time content analysis feature, which is a game-changer, offering immediate feedback on keyword usage, readability, and overall SEO health. This allows me to fine-tune my content before publishing, ensuring it is both engaging and optimized for search engines. Additionally, Yoast SEO's XML sitemaps and breadcrumbs control enhance the navigability and structure of my site, further boosting its SEO performance. Frequent updates and robust support make Yoast SEO a reliable and essential part of my on-page optimization toolkit.

I like to use Ahrefs, Semrush. And for writing content, it's better to use Surfer.

    Consensus seems to be...

    Ahrefs clear no.1
    Semrush distant 2nd
    Some love for Majestic
    Very little love for Moz

Also surprised how many use multiple.

Ahrefs charges a credit for pretty much everything you click now, eats credits real quick even if there is a load page error. great tool but overpriced
