Well, if one is a "professional" gambler, then one is making a living off of gambling. One way to do this is Poker. The other could be backgammon, sports betting, DFS, blackjack card counting, or one of that rare breed of humans who mathematically dissects every gambling promotion ever and mercilessly exploits those with flaws for profit.

I thought I was the only one who got shocked with this comment " professional gambler"
In terms of Poker or backgammon, I wouldn't argue but in terms of casino games I don't see this making much sense.
All games in the casino are built for the casino to have the edge. some games less than others but the casino always has the edge against the player.

If a player could win every single time, or even most of the time, where the casino will find the money to pay him? Most have to loose, few could win and you can always be on the winnings side.
You could be the luckiest man alive but not a professional gambler if that's casino related. My opinion

To give one example that might be useful for the people reading this thread, but there are people who make a full-time living at least partially from playing on video poker teams that will swarm a land-based casino when a progressive jackpot reaches a certain level (to make the game profitable enough to be viable) and play until the jackpot hits, splitting the winnings to lower volatility.

People often seek out new games that have weaknesses of various types, etc., as well.

Now, its really easy to make small bets on Fantasy Football at Yahoo!

I minimize betting when I think I'll lose.

There's also "professional" degenerates. I think you would be shocked to know lots of tournament players are staked and in huge amounts of debt. I'd put money on an intelligent amateur that has played a lot of poker over a "pro" degenerate any day of the week.

Your opinion is clear and arguments you state are convincing as well.. and it is a sad story about "professional degenarates" .. why do they behave in such a way I dont know..

This is something that I think always surprises people because a non-trival number of the people they saw on TV during the big WPT days are basically dead broke.

Big diference between online and live poker players though. Playing live the overheads are huge and you can only play 1 tournament at a time so you need to be really good and really well rolled. Online is the opposite.
You used to get a lot of live 'pros' who were just sponsored by an online room but not so much any more. Now they are seen begging for a stake while deeply in debt.

I used to play online casino games but made the switch to only sports betting when I started my site. Now all my sparetime goes into finding nice free picks for my blog so I tend to play on my own picks that I feel most comfortable with.
I run the site Bettingviking, we offer Arbitrage betting, sports betting, guides, bonuses, predictions and previews - http://bettingviking.com ** Partner-ups and guest previewing is always of interest, just pm me if you think that we can help eachother out!

The question that arises in this thread is if you think in order to be successful either as an affiliate or igaming professional you have to gamble from time to time in order to know exactly the product that you support/sell?

Why would this be different to any other niche? People who set up 100's of successful Amazon affiliate sites don't go around buying all the products and reviewing them in depth they just pay content writers to do it and make the necessary tweaks to SEO optimise it. So to answer your question no you don't need to gamble to be successful in this industry the same way you don't need to own every sump pump that amazon sell in order to build a successful sump pump niche site.
